I think you’re right that the biggest problem isn’t ownership, but responsibility and accountability. I would never want to take a rifle out of the hands of a hunter or someone who may have good reason to protect their home, however I do not see a problem in a comprehensive registration program that includes a yearly review and renewal of the registration. The extension of the Brady Bill, which ties the “gun show” loophole for waiting periods, background checks, and registering gun sales is only a start. Unfortunately for the Democrats in Congress, they don’t want to rock the boat right now and pass needed gun control measures. Barbara Boxer has gone as far as saying that their gun-control efforts are dead.
